Dr. Brian Padilla

Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, University of Connecticut School of Medicine

Dr. Brian Padilla is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. He earned his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a master's degree in Community Mental Health from the University of Georgia, and a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Colorado, Boulder.

Dr. Padilla's career has been significantly influenced by his Mexican heritage and his service as a United States Peace Corps Volunteer as evidenced by his interests in Latinx psychology, refugee and immigrant mental health, and global mental health. Before joining UCONN, Dr. Padilla served as Behavioral Health Director for six years at Fair Haven Community Health Care, a federally qualified health center serving a large primarily Spanish-speaking Latino community in New Haven, Connecticut. In this role, he developed a deep interest in the intersection between medical and mental illness, and a passion for both teaching and clinical supervision.

What Dr. Padilla enjoys most about his work with Grameen's Promotoras is having the opportunity to combine his passions for psychology, social justice and teaching to support female immigrants to the United States - a group that is both sorely underrepresented, and, though their contribution of diversity, innovation and creativity, crucial for the growth and development of any nation.
