Cynthia Cortez

Promotora - Manhattan

Cynthia was born in New York City. Her family struggled a lot when she was a child, as they did not have the resources to help her mother feed them. Cynthia’s mother came from Mexico when she was 18 years old and worked hard to have what was necessary for the family. To this day Cynthia is so grateful for her mother, and having to go through these struggles made her realize that there are many families that are in need of help. This made her pursue a nursing program because it meant helping people in need and helping them feel better in many ways. When she found out that Grameen Promotoras was offering to help women in her community with resources, Cynthia was very interested in having a career here. She feels so much better with life because she can finally help those in need, and it makes her think back to the days when she did not have food for days as a child. Knowing that she can help families eat and find help makes her the woman that she is today, and helping her community is very important and an achievement for herself.
