Iris Arzu

Promotora - Charlotte

Iris was born and raised in a small town on the north coast of Honduras, and is very proud to belong to the Garifuna ethnic group. At a very young age (12 years old), her parents sent her into the city to continue her studies since the school in her town only reached sixth grade. When Iris finished high school, she started working with a non-profit organization that helps train and inform people in the Garifuna community about documenting and legalizing their land. She became an honorary teacher in a marginal sector in Honduras, and became a pre-Kindergarten teacher assistant for 10 years when she first came to the United States.

Iris has always liked supporting and assisting others if it is within her potential. She thanks God and the world for putting Grameen PrimaCare on her path since the service it provides to the community, especially to women, has been one of her dear dreams. Iris also loves nature and tranquility, and loves connecting with herself on the beach, in the forest, or in parks where there are many trees. She also really likes animals, especially dogs.
